Light and crunchy, this grilled Mrs. Paul’s Parchment Bake Garlic Butter Tilapia will satisfy seafood cravings without making you too fat. There’s no breading here, but a butter garlic spice sauce instead, that really energizes the tilapia fish flavor. That characteristic fishy taste of seafood is on the mild side in this frozen product, and the fillets have been flame grilled prior to freezing for that fresh-grilled taste. This flavor survives the freezing processes quite well. My biggest, but not terribly significant gripe about these tilapia fillets, is that you only get two of them per package, and two of them just didn’t fill me up.
This fillets come packaged in a parchment bag; each fillet is in its own bag. Preparation is easy, you just take a bag out of the freezer, put the whole bag in the preheated oven, let it back for the recommended time, remove, cut the bag open, dump the fish onto a waiting plate, and enjoy. The bag allows the fish to marinate in the butter and garlic sauce while cooking, and prevents the fillets from drying out in the dry heat of the oven. This seasoned tilapia fish is great when served with green or yellow beans, broccoli, rice, stewed tomatoes, squash, a fresh garden salad, or any combination of the above.
Benefits, Advantages, Pros, and Features
- Lower carbs since there’s no flour breading.
- Low fishy taste.
- 100% whole tilapia fillets.
- Re closable box.
- Fish protected in the freezer by the included parchment bags. These bags however, are not reuseable.
- No fillers in these fish fillets.
- Since this is a pre seasoned product, with a flavorful butter sauce built-in, no additional condiments are required to beef up the taste. But a little hot sauce can be appetizing if you like that.
- Totally recyclable package.
- The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) has certified the tilapia used herein as a sustainable fish resource.
- Offers a good source of protein and Omega-3 fatty acids.
- The best-by date is four months out from the date I bought this buttered tilapia. So it can be stockpiled if you plan on eating lots of it in the following several months.
- While baking, this tilapia fish emits a soft, sizzling noise, and an appetizing aroma.
- After baking, there’s no mess in the oven to clean up, as the parchment bag contains all bubbling juices, preventing them from spilling or splattering onto the baking tray.
- Following the supplied cooking instructions yields spectacularly tasty and flaky, piping hot fish fillets.
Disadvantages, Cons, Problems, and Concerns
- Too few fish fillets in this 7.2-ounce box.
- I have to eat three or four servings to really feel full. They might make each fillet another ounce or two larger.
- There’s some sugar in the butter sauce that I imagine they could do without.
- Microwave and toaster oven preperation is not recommended.
Cooking Directions
Conventional Oven
- Position a rack in the middle set of holders in the oven.
- Pre heat oven to 425 degrees F.
- While waiting for the oven to warm, position the desired number of tilapia fillets in their parchment bags, seem side up, on a shallow baking tray. No need to line the tray with aluminum foil for this product, as the parchment bags prevent any mess.
- Then, once the oven reaches 425 degrees, place pan, uncovered, in oven, in the center of the middle rack.
- Bake for 22 to 24 minutes total time. No flipping of the fillets half-way through baking is required here.
- Once baking is done, remove the fillet bags from oven. Note that fish is not completely cooked until its internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. or higher.
- Turn off the oven.
- Cut open the bags, being careful of steam discharges. I cut them while wearing oven mitts
- Dump the fillets onto plates, serve immediately, and enjoy.
Do not re freeze raw, thawed fish, and promptly refrigerate any unused cooked fish.

Product Rating for Mrs. Paul’s Parchment Bake Garlic Butter Tilapia
I appreciate the no-flour approach in this product, like the low sugar, low carbs, and low fat, and especially enjoy the butter garlic sauce. The no-mess preparation due to the parchment bags is awesome. True. They could benefit from packaging more fillets per box. But all-in-all, I deem this offering a superior frozen fish product. I’d rate them at 93 out of 100.
