Amy’s Chunky Tomato Bisque Soup is VERY good. Too good. Hard to stay away from, and as a result, at least in this house, this soup is quite difficult to stockpile. Oh, you can easily buy lots of for storage in your pantry. But it won’t stay there for very long, because knowing that it’s there will haunt you, until you eat it all. We found it very addictive, perhaps because it’s perhaps the only recipe in the entire Amy’s Kitchen organic soups line, that features added sugar.
However, look past the organic cane sugar, whose presence herein is almost miniscule anyhow, and you’ll completely savor and enjoy this traditional but quick prepared, canned tomato soup. It’s vibrant red-orange color almost qualifies as fluorescent; resembling a thick and rich pizza sauce in appearance. This indicates that Amy’s Kitchen did not overly cook these ingredients; only enough for proper canning. So, the health qualities of this soup have been preserved as much as practicable, given that this is a canned tomato soup product. Nor did they overdo it with the chunkiness. While there are plenty of bite-sized pieces of chewy tomatoes here, this is still a mostly liquid concoction. We like it therefore, and though we do not purchase it but a couple times per year, gorging on this bisque soup now and then is one of the least culpable of life’s guilty pleasures.
Benefits, Pros, Advantages, and Features
- Moderate fat levels per serving, which no doubt contributes to this chunky bisque soup’s satiating qualities. It really does fill you up; especially when you top it with a bit of mozzarella cheese just prior to serving.
- Though technically a liquid, this soup is quite thick; about as thick in consistency as what you would find in a thin yogurt.
- Lots of easy-to-chew tomato chunks, but not too many.
- Pull-top lid for easy access. The electric can opener has been rendered obsolete here.
- Can be enjoyed either hot or cold, although we prefer it hot.
- Features a fresh-vegetables look and taste, which is surprising for a canned food product.
- Moderate levels of vegetable-based protein, although eating this along with some other higher protein source food like meat or cheese, we highly recommend.
- Comes ready to eat.
- Certified completely organic and does not contain any GMOs (genetically modified organisms).
- No added preservatives, MSG, artificial colors, or fake flavors.
- Offers numerous spices and all-natural vegetables, which enhances not only its taste, but boosts its fiber content as well as overall nutrition.
- Recyclable steel can which contains no BPA. Amy’s kitchen aspires to be as green as they can.
- No watery or diluted taste found here. This is about as rich as a vegetable-based soup can get.
- It is gluten-free, although this is made in factories that also produce products containing gluten. At most however, you’d only get trace amounts of gluten, and gluten testing is conducted routinely and rigorously, to ensure that at worst, only minimal amounts appear in this product.
Disadvantages, Cons, Problems, and Concerns
- Contains milk, and so, may not be suitable for vegans and vegetarians. However, the dairy items herein are made from all rBST hormone free milk. So any negative impacts from the presence of milk is likely to be minimal.
- A trifle high in the sodium content, at 680 milligrams per serving; there are almost two servings in each 14.5 ounce can.
- Most medium and smaller grocery stores do not stock Amy’s Kitchen soup products. So, finding them can be challenging. But, it’s well worth the effort to search.
- We’d prefer no sugar be added.
Preparation Instructions
This is not a condensed soup, so avoid adding water in order to retain its undiluted, exquisite taste.
Stove Directions
- Pour contents of can into a medium sauce pan.
- Heat over medium to medium-high heat until the soup just starts to boiling.
- Stir occasionally (once every half-minute or so) while heating.
- Once hot, remove from heat immediately to avoid the formation of milk scum.
- Let stand for a minute, to assure thorough, through-and-through heating.
- Spoon or pour into soup bowls.
- Enjoy.
Microwave Directions
- Pour the bisque tomato soup into a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl or two single-serving microwave-safe bowls.
- Heat with the high power (100%) setting for 2 minutes. Heating times vary depending on the microwave oven. Experiment with yours to determine ideal heating times.
- Once warming is complete, let stand in the microwave for a minute, to allow any boiling to stop and the heat to evenly distribute throughout the soup.
- Remove the bowl(s) from microwave, carefully though, as they’ll be quite hot.
- Stir the soup several times.
- Serve and enjoy.

Product Rating
Little disappointment in this product. Really, the only notably not-so-good aspect of this recipe is that it contains added refined sugar. Still though, the quality of this bisque tomato soup is tops. We know of no better-tasting canned tomato soup that is non condensed. For a soup of this high a grade, it’s affordable price is brow-raising. We really enjoy it, and would thus, rate it at 96 out of 100.
