Maple Grove Farms All Natural Blueberry Syrup Review

On a whim, I recently tried   Maple Grove Farms All Natural Blueberry Syrup   liquid on pancakes, waffles,  and cereals to add a sweet blueberry flavor.

This blueberry syrup has 40 calories per tablespoon, and appears on the lower side of equivalent in sweetness to pure maple syrup.  Both the blueberry taste and deep red color of the syrup seem very much like other blueberry syrups I’ve sampled.  The color mimics real blueberry juice or a very dark red wine.

Benefits, Pros, Advantages, and Features

This naturally flavored blueberry syrup has a subtle and pleasant blueberry aroma, that is similar to Smucker’s blueberry flavored syrups, jams, and jellies.

Indeed, to me, this premium brand product tastes almost identical to other blueberry syrup products such as the Smucker’s syrup, except that the blueberry flavor is slightly weaker.

This syrup is clear yet dark red or maroon in color; resembling blueberry juice though somewhat lighter than actual blueberry juice.

As a beverage flavoring agent, this syrup dissolves quickly in drinks, and I truly savor its natural blueberry flavor on my buckwheat pancakes.

It needs only one stirring into drinks, as it remains suspended within once  completely dissolved the first time.

It’s got a syrupy consistency (would you expect anything else?), that’s about as thick as pure maple syrup.  It remains pour-easy even when chilled in the refrigerator.

Thus it can season pancakes with no appreciable difference in texture than other blueberry syrups.

Allergen free, gluten free, and contains no high fructose corn syrup.

This is one of the very few syrups that you can still buy in a glass bottle.  Excellent flavor preservation strategy here.

Disadvantages, Cons, Problems, and Concerns

If spilled, this product can draw bugs, just as spilled sugar or sugary syrup might. Like sugar, caution must be exercised in clean-up that you leave no sticky simple sugars around that could attract roaches and ants.

Also, if spilled on clothing, this product can seriously and permanently stain, depending on the fabric involved.  Immediately flush stains with water and do not allow the syrup to dry.  Wash the item as soon as possible to prevent stain setting.

As this is newer than the more traditional brands, it can be hard to find in local grocery stores. However, I shop at a Walmart Super Center close by that carries it reliably.

Product requires vigorous shaking prior to serving and must be refrigerated after opening.

I bought this 8.5-ounce bottle for roughly five dollars, which seems pricey for all the more syrup you get.

Though this product contains no high fructose corn syrup, it still has fructose.  Fructose is contained in the invert sugar ingredient herein.

Ingredients

Sugar, invert sugar, water, blueberry juice from concentrate, apple juice concentrate, pear juice concentrate, elderberry and clarified lemon juice concentrates, grape skin extract, citric acid, xanthan gum, natural flavor.

Our Rating

I’m pretty well pleased with this syrup from Maple Grove Farms of Vermont, and would thus rate it at 86 out of 100.  I like the taste, but as is true of so many good-tasting condiments, there’s a staggering amount of added sugar here.  Consume sparingly therefore.

Where To Buy Maple Grove Farms All Natural Blueberry Syrup

Look for the transparent glass bottles with the green, yellow, and white labels at your favorite bigger grocer’s stores, including Walmart and Kroeger.
